5-WEEK SUMMER DETOX AND WELLNESS REFRESHER - WEEK 3 BRUNCH N'BEANS

Week Three: BRUNCH N'BEANS
There’s nothing like rising on a Saturday morning before the world wakes up and heading out for a late brunch with friends and family. There’s something about starting the morning
together – catching up, reminiscing. This week it’s about incorporating DIY beauty
recipes that make you feel refreshed. Then it’s about enjoying a staple of breakfast foods that incorporate beans of all kinds. Yes, beans can give a little gas LOL, but when combined with a well-balanced meal, they are simply fab. Beans go great with spices of many kinds. Beans are cheap, a great source of protein and nutrient dense, and make the foundation for recipes of many global cuisines. Start the day refreshed and confident.

BEAUTY
One of the keys to wellness is making sure you review the ingredients you use in your skincare and beauty regimens. The more natural, the more you can make exactly the kind of things your body needs and loves – the happier you and your skin will be. Body washes are super fun to create and just a few ingredients - add a luxury your skin will thank you for.
Body Wash: Basic recipe: Grate 1 bar of unscented organic soap (such as castile soap) or grate a bar of your favorite organic hand-made soap. Bring 4 cups of water to a simmer. Then add the grated soap, 3 tbsps of coconut oil, 4 tbsps of vegetable glycerin. Always test a spot on your skin to make sure you’re not allergic to any of the ingredients you use. Stir as it melts. Once melted, remove from heat and transfer to a bottle. It’s best to add your fragrance oils or essential oils at the end if you are using unscented soap. Let it cool for 24 hours.
Scents: Rose Vanilla, Aloe & Cucumber, Citrus Sunshine, Strawberry Sugar, Lavender.
We found some lovely scents that incorporate our favorite fragrance/essential oils.
Experiment and have fun coming up with your own.
When making your own beauty products, try to source from small businesses or family
owned businesses. Many big-names unfortunately often compromise on quality. Supporting
your local farmers, small producers from around the world – definitely makes the world a
happier and more beautiful space.
Here are some of our favorite essential/fragrance oil shops. A little goes a long way.
Brambleberry - based in Washington State, USA
Enfleurage - based in New York City, USA
Eden Botanicals - based in California, USA
DE-STRESS: Listen to 1 hour of Classical Music – not doing anything. Our favorite Classical
Music Composer is Joseph de Bologne, Le Chevalier de Saint George. Violinist Yury Revich
has some of our favorites – his interpretations are masterful and beautiful!

MEAL PLAN: BRUNCH N’ BEANS – the center piece of this week is the beans – consumed
in the ambiance of a tasty brunch/breakfast. The idea is NO STORE-BOUGHT canned beans.
Use dry beans and cook them the old fashioned way from scratch! What you don’t use, just
freeze for next time – simple and economical.
Beans: Kidney Beans, Navy Beans, Black-Eyed Peas, Chickpeas/Garbanzo Beans, Black
Beans, Pinto Beans you name it. Pair your beans with sumptuous egg dishes, toasts,
breakfast tacos and more…

Ethiopian Coffee – we’re biased of course. But we believe Ethiopian coffee is
hands down the world’s best! Ethiopia is where coffee began in a place called
Kaffa. We love our Ethiopian coffee. You can find Ethiopian coffee in many places
– but try to support the businesses that give back and invest in farming
communities in Ethiopia like ours in Madagascar…If you ever visit Ethiopia, you
have to go to a coffee ceremony.
Theo’s Roast is one of our favorites but find ones close to you
